This report maps the terms and conditions of student financing across the 27 EU Member States and identifies key risk factors and default rate data.

Female access to finance EIF Survey

This paper examines the current academic literature on access to finance for female entrepreneurs and female-led enterprises. It looks at studies covering two main financing markets: credit and venture capital (VC). It aims to provide a policy-oriented and introductory framework to the topic of female access to finance.
Funding women entrepreneurs

The Sustainable Development goals call for the world to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. This implies equity of opportunity in all areas of our society and economy. This report builds on the premise that putting our full weight behind female entrepreneurs makes fundamental sense. Bankers and investors increasingly see that it is not only ethically and socially the right thing to do, but also a clear-cut case of smart economics.
Support for female entrepreneurs

Women are less often entrepreneurs and those that strive to grow their business or decide to lead a company face high barriers. Globally we still have a way to go to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls, as stipulated by the UN Sustainable Development goals and the European Pillar of Social Rights. The study shows that supporting female entrepreneurs helps to mitigate gender employment gaps and generates wider societal benefits.
EIF approach towards gender investments

Diversity and women's empowerment are increasingly important and closely followed EU Policy priorities. The venture capital (VC) and private equity (PE) industries suffer from an underrepresentation of women as investors/partners/founders. Against this background, the EC and EIF have come up with gender-smart investment criteria suitable to the VC/PE context and applicable across the InvestEU equity instrument.

InvestEU ESCALAR model

The ESCALAR mechanism is specifically designed to support scale-up financing. ESCALAR proposes an asymmetric form of a share class or fund unit of the fund benefiting from certain additional protections that reduces both EIF’s investment risk and the EIF’s expected return, compared to other share classes or fund units while providing higher upside return for such other share classes.
